Why Innovation Matters? Innovation and Innovative teachers should be what we strive for in public schools and should be what a principal supports and encourages. Innovative teachers and thoughts should be a mirror of what we hope for students; not be a reflection of the past. An Innovative mindset can lead to ongoing change, thought and excitement for this amazing education system. Public schools need to mirror the reality of the day. If classrooms of today look like they did 20 years ago, we are doing it wrong. Our education time together should stem out of the need for the 4 C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking), not because it’s a school day. As leaders we should be models of innovation. So let’s communicate in alternative ways, collaborate through technology all the while using creative thinking to create the best staff environment that values time for all staff members. These tools should mirror what we want in classrooms. If innovation doesn't change what happens in the classroom for students, take it personally. Then take action. Are you still bringing in trainers but not seeing changes in how students are instructed? Are you still having staff meetings? Are you still doing what you always done and getting the same results? And finally, do you only have pockets of greatness? Are you ready to change this? I hope you are because your innovative leadership matters. If teachers and peers don’t see you using the same thinking you are asking them to use with students, then the opportunities for students remain the same, stagnant. Teachers need to be leading learning and lead a revolutionizing. How have you supported the 4 C’s today?
